Scala Scripting Documentation
« on: September 17, 2009, 02:35:00 AM »
I'm just wondering where the most up to date documentation is for the actual Scala Scripting language is.

I found an old pdf from 1997 that covers some things but I'm wondering if there is something like this but more recent?

Thanks

There isn't any and this is a real bug-bear of mine. We have a great piece of software with totally substandard documentation. The online help (http://files.scala.com/scala/peter/scalascript/syntaxdocs5/) is only of partial use as it doesn't describe what the verbs really do, it just gives some syntax.

It is extremely frustrating!

Is anyone at Scala listening to this????

Scala doc I referred to from 1997:

ftp://ftp.ism.ru/pub/Scala%205/docs/ScalaSCR.pdf

It's about the best document I've found, although I can't seem to find it on the scala site again.

The only other documentation are scripting examples here:

http://files.scala.com/advancedscripting/infochannel5/scalascript.html

If anyone else has anything to share, please do.  As dmn mentioned, the lack of docs is extremely frustrating.

i overflew the documentation, it seems that a lot of it is still useable!
The biggest change i saw is the ScalaScript "block syntax" (earlier: EVENT and END, now: { and })

This ScalaSCR.pdf file you mention appears to have completely disappeared from the searchable internet -- Thanks to bestey and stefan.kima who sent me a copy, I've now (hopefully permanently) mirrored this file here: http://www.claar.net/ben/mirror

The Scala Script Contractors must be hoarding and blocking. We as Customers of Scala should have the right to understand and share commone scripts. I was at training recently, that was put on by Scala but the instructor was a contractor, that ran a side business to help SCALA Customers by creating their scripts. He showed us novices a fews things didn't have us try or do any of it and then left us sit for the last two hours of class while he worked on scripts that he had creater for a Hospital. His scripts had blew up and he had to fix it then.  He really wasn't interested in teaching us anything useful because it meant job security for him as a contractor to come to a sight and do all the work. What a Crock.

http://forms.scala.com/advancedscripting/syntaxdocs5/ is all you're going to get, I think.

Actually--there is very complete and up to date information on the Scala Developer Wiki:

https://developer.scala.com/dev/

However, to get access you do need to be a registered Scala customer or Developer.

Your Scala Sales Rep. can assist you in getting an account.

I have a real problem with Scala removing the scripting documentation that was referred to in the manual. Example: The IC3 Designer manual clearly refers to ScalaEX.txt and that it can be accessed on the Scala website. Some of the help components in the spftware also refer to it for better explanations. This is not posted anywhere I can find on the net. Legacy software or not, they should keep it like they keep the other IC3 info on the site. Bah!
