Using Folders
« on: December 08, 2016, 02:35:01 PM »
The Scala documentation for 11+ tells how to create and delete folders from within Conten Manager, but what next?  How do you add and remove media, etc.?  Where do the folders appear?

Okay,
I am responding to my own post because I have figured out how it works.

After creating the folders in Content Manager (https://docs.scala.com/display/CM1102/Managing+Folders), The folders are created in the data/ content directory on Content Manager computer, but they are of no use within Content Manager until you upload media to them.

To upload media to a folder:

1. Go to the Media.
2. Select +New, then Media Upload;
3. Click Select next the the save to field
4. Check the box for the folder that you want to upload to.
5. Click Add and select the media that you would like to upload
6. Click Upload

Now you can ...
Use folders as a Filter to find media, or
use folders as media item criteria for a Smart Playlist

I hope someone finds this useful.

I think Scala needs to really work on improving how the Folders work. It's great that you can create folders and upload content (such as images, videos and sounds) to the Folders, but if you upload the content to the root directory or the wrong folder by mistake then there is no way to move it. The only way to get the content to the right Folder would be to delete it and reupload it. If someone has used that Content  (such as an image) in Slides in the meantime, deleting it will result in that image disappearing from any message it was used in. We really need a way to move content that has already been uploaded from one folder to another.
