Matrox quad graphics cards (eg: Matrox M9148)
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:01:28 PM »
Has anyone got an opinion about Matrox's quad PCI express cards?

There seem to be two models that are interesting, one with 512 MB and one with 1 GB. The emphasis seems to be on financial and scientific applications, I have no idea if they┬┤re any good for video and animation.

The configuration would be one player PC running 4 screens (landscape) at 1360 x 768, for a desktop 5440 x 768.

Are there better quad-screen solutions for digital signage?

We have solutions with 2 x M9120 Plus LP PCIe x16 cards in one HP PC and they work very well, supporting 8 independent channels on 8 screens. Quite cool!

Probably means 8 frames right?

Is it better to make two channels with 4 frames in each than to use one channel with 8 frames?

Sorry ... probably a misinterpretation on phrasing. Yes, we have 2 Scala channels running at 5440 x 768 each. Inside those, we have 4 "screens" running on each channel at 1360x768.

Does that make sense?

Does the Matrox software support having two of these now?  Or does it involve a hack of some sort?

regards,

gunnar

Hi Gunnar

Matrox supports 2 cards "out of the box" providing (of course) that the PC hardware can handle 2 x PCIe slots.

Performance is very low.

The good NVIDIA GeForce9800GTX, 2xDVI-I w/512MB, and two Digitial Edition Matrox DualHead2Go or TripleHead2Go method results in a significantly higher performing solution, (about 800% and works with 90-degree rotation), for 4 to 6 screens.  [its also about $150 cheaper than the Matrox graphic cards]
